In behalf of the Board of Accountancy, I would like to convey our warmest greetings and commendations to the organizers and participants of the Accountancy Week Celebration of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) to be held on July 19-25, 2009.
Your conference theme "LIVE IT UP! The PICPA Spirit" is indeed very appropriate and timely. In this day and age, the world is no longer what it used to be. With the advent of the New Economy, there are higher demands for efficiency, effectiveness and competitiveness. With barrier-free business and state of the art communication as pillars of globalization, the pace of the change has never been this fast. This current economic development affecting the financial and corporate world calls for an accounting profession that is capable to respond to the needs of the times. As CPAs with a mission --- that of being the business world's most trusted advisors, it becomes necessary for all of us to be professionally competent. Moreover, we must continue to pursue what is right with compassion and dedication, strong sense of morality, independence and integrity. As wave after wave of advancements come our way, we must learn to ride at the crest and not at the bottom. Mastery over modernization is the only way we could stay afloat and achieve the extraordinary. This gathering serves as a good venue for addressing such concerns.
